According to the latest report on the Cambodian economy released by the World Bank on June 6th, despite sluggish domestic demand, Cambodia's economic activity rebounded in the first quarter of this year, driven by the recovery of service and goods exports. It is expected that the economic growth rate in 2024 will slightly increase from 5.6% in 2023 to 5.8%. Stimulated by the recovery of clothing, tourism goods, and footwear exports, as well as the growth of the tourism industry, it is expected that this upward trend will continue, with growth rates of 6.1% and 6.4% in 2025 and 2026, respectively.
Recently, Sun Zhantuo, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Development Council of Cambodia, led the Cambodian delegation to participate in a business negotiation matchmaking meeting held at the headquarters of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), accompanied by the Cambodian Ambassador to Japan, Ling Li, and the Secretary General of the Investment and Development Council of Cambodia, Suon Sophal, to promote Japanese investors seeking investment opportunities in Cambodia.
Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and Chinese Foreign Minister, said that as staunch friends, China is willing to encourage more Chinese funded enterprises to invest in Cambodia and help Cambodia accelerate its industrialization process. According to the website of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi held talks with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Song Jinda, in Beijing on Friday (May 24th).
Cambodia is a country in Southeast Asia with few US dollar settlements and free foreign exchange inflows and outflows, without foreign exchange controls or losses. Adhere to a policy of permanent neutrality and non alignment, and maintain friendly relations with most countries in the world.
